A father and son piloted salmiakki workshop
Klepper & Klepper is a small salmiakki workshop run by a father and son from the Netherlands. The company started in 1990 from a small candy stall operated by father Klepper, which has over the years expanded to produce this salmiakki, which is titled the best in the world, The best licorice ever. After conquering the specialty stores in the Netherlands, the Kleppers were already looking beyond the country's borders. The world conquest began right from Finland, from us at Tallipihan Suklaapuoti, and has continued to many other countries after Finland.
Did you know that this red sweet salmiakki is the first child of the Klepper & Klepper product family? It was born in 2015 as the result of a long development work as a jubilee salmiaki, which was meant to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Klepperie's candy stall. The product became extremely popular, and people came to hoard it even from hundreds of kilometers away. However, father Klepper was convinced that the product would only be produced for the anniversary year in question. Fortunately, the son Klepper, who studied business administration, got his father's head turned, because he was convinced that this product had the potential to become world famous. And then the rest is history...
Gluten-free and gelatin-free salmiak
When this red salmiakki was developed, it accidentally became both gluten-free and gelatin-free. This recipe was easy to continue, and so all the Salmiaks in the Klepper & Klepper product family are gluten- and gelatin-free. Licorice is usually made with wheat starch, but Klepper's salmiaki uses potato starch, which is gluten-free. In addition, all flavors except honey are vegan. This delicacy is therefore great for those following many special diets, and has been a popular gift idea.
